FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: How do I sign up for new service?
A: Email or contact us by phone at (919) 542-5398, Monday-Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm.

Q: What time does my trash/recycle need to be out for collection?
A: Trash and/or recycling should be placed at the curb or alley by 6:00 am, or the night before your collection day.

Q: Do you take yard debris?
A: Yard debris is not allowed in household trash or recycling. Trash cans containing these items will not be collected until the yard debris has been removed.
A yard debris service is available in select areas. Currently, this service is offered in The Preserve, Governors Village, Governors Park, Governors Lake, and Governors Forest. If you are located in one of these areas and would like further information, please call (919) 542-5398.
For areas where yard debris service is not available, individuals may take their yard debris to the local landfill at 28 County Services Rd., Pittsboro (919) 542-5516. Residents should call to confirm the disposal rates for these items.

Q: Do you accept appliances?
A: Most items, such as appliances, mattresses, furniture, grills, wooden crates/pallets, and large bulky items, require prior notice, and special pick-up fees may apply based on the items being removed. Call for more information or to schedule a removal date.
Any scheduled special pick-up that is not canceled in advance will be charged a $35.00 fee.
Yard debris, compact fluorescent light bulbs, TVs, computers, oil, paint, pesticides, tires, construction debris (e.g., sheetrock, doors, windows, bags of concrete, lumber, steel, iron, shingles), hazardous items, and propane tanks are NOT collected with household trash. Individuals may take these items to local recycling collection centers or landfills. Call to confirm what is accepted at these sites and for hours of operation.
We cannot collect whole or partial animal remains in trash or recycling.

Q: When is my bill due?
A: All services are billed quarterly in advance.
Payments are due at the beginning of each quarter. Due dates for each quarter are January 1st, April 1st, July 1st, and October 1st.
Bills are sent to your home where service is provided.
Payments should be mailed to PO Box 25, Bear Creek, NC 27207.
We also accept credit card payments over the phone. Call 919-542-5398 to make a payment.
You may also make payments through your financial institution, referencing your physical address to identify the account.

Q: What cannot be put out with recycling for collection?
A: Styrofoam, plastic bags, bubble wrap, air conditioning filters, light bulbs, used tissue products, clay pots, ceramics, motor or cooking oils, oil filters, shoes, clothing, construction debris, and yard debris (including concrete, dirt, and gravel) are not accepted.
We cannot collect whole or partial animal remains in trash or recycling.

Q: Do you have dumpsters available?
A: We do not have roll-off dumpsters. We only collect from private residential households.

Q: Can I use my own trash can and recycling bin?
A: Yes.
Effective 2-14-18, if you choose to use your own items, such as trash cans and recycling bins, we cannot be held responsible for any damages other than those caused by First Choice Disposal. We will treat your property as if it were our own and will not damage any personal items used by individuals.

Q: Can liquids be placed in the trash or recycling?
A: Effective 7-25-22, flyers were distributed to all residents stating that no liquids are allowed in the trash or recycling.
Please empty all liquids from bottles, cans, or any other containers. This will prevent spills and will be better for the landfill, recycling center, and your neighborhood streets. When the truck compacts to make more room for additional items, liquids may spill from the truck and on the roadway or at the collection centers.

Q: Can I use more than one trash can?
A: The monthly rate is based on one trash can. If you wish to use a second can that you provide, there will be an additional monthly fee. Call for more information.
